How to Convert Text Case
Text pasted from emails, spreadsheets and old documents often arrives in the wrong case — shouted in capitals, all lowercase, or a mix. Here’s how to pick the right style and convert it in one step.

Paste a heading, a list or a whole document, or drop in a TXT, DOCX or PDF file.
Choose a style
Pick Title Case for headings, Sentence case for normal writing, UPPERCASE or lowercase, or a programming style such as camelCase, snake_case or kebab-case.

Sentence case: lowercase everything, then capitalize the first word of each sentence.
Which case should I use?
Use Title Case for headlines, page titles and product names; Sentence case for body text, buttons and most UI copy; UPPERCASE sparingly for short labels; and lowercase for tags, emails and URLs. Programming styles — camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case and CONSTANT_CASE — turn phrases into names for variables, files and database columns.
Why Title Case keeps some capitals
Title Case keeps minor words such as “a”, “to” and “for” lowercase, and leaves words that are already written in capitals untouched, because they are often acronyms like PDF or NASA. If a heading arrived in all capitals, convert it to Sentence case or lowercase first, then to Title Case.
In Microsoft Word and Google Docs
In Word, select the text and press Shift F3 (Fn Shift F3 on many Macs) to cycle through lowercase, UPPERCASE and Capitalize Each Word. In Google Docs, choose Format → Text → Capitalization.
In Excel or Google Sheets
Use UPPER, LOWER or PROPER in a new column, then paste the results as values. PROPER capitalizes every word, including minor ones, so it isn’t true title case.
