How to use Extract Text from File
- Drag and drop a file onto the upload area, or choose one from your device.
- TextVix reads the file in your browser and puts its text in the input box.
- Choose whether to join broken lines, then press Extract text.
- Copy the text, or download it as TXT, Word or PDF.
Good for
- Copying text out of PDFs that won’t let you select it cleanly
- Getting plain text from Word documents
- Converting RTF and OpenDocument files to text
What can be read
PDFs with real text (most digitally created PDFs), Word .docx, OpenDocument .odt, RTF, HTML and any plain-text format. Scanned PDFs are images, so they contain no text to extract — TextVix tells you when that happens.
Older .doc files
The legacy Word .doc format can’t be read reliably in a browser. Open it in Word, Pages or Google Docs and save it as .docx first.
What happens to your text
Your text is processed in your browser and kept only in this tab’s memory. It is not uploaded, saved or used for analytics.
